I am a parent who is tired of dealing with the public shool system. My 11 year old son, Dakota is Suffering in a system who worries about themselves before the putting the needs of the child first. So now I am entering the world of home schooling. What am I thinking?
The elementary school he was attending took him out of science and social studies to put him in a remedial reading class that never actually help him at all. Why?? Because the school was in trouble with the state for low test scores. So all of was just a huge waste of time and education.
So angry mom here called PA Cyber School. It is a state wide home school program. They give you the curriculum, text books, pay for your internet and provide a computer for the student. Nothing will come out of my pocket for this venture. So it makes the prospective a little more attractive to us.
On August 25th we will be traveling 2 hours away to get Dakota enrolled in the program. I have absolutely no clue what I am doing.....
You might as well meet the characters in this developing journey as over the months you will get to know them very well.
Let's start with me. I am Sharon. I am 33 years old and the mother of five children. I am a stay at home mother. I do freelance writing and blogging as you can tell. I also started a new job with Ghost Walk Productions as the Director of Online Communities. I am a well studied tarot card reader (yes I am a pagan, some may say witch). I offer my talents to a vast array of clients who seek guidance.
Mike is my husband of seven years. He is 37 and I dont know what I would do without him. He is an awesome father who loves to lavish attention on the children. But he also is the authoritarian. He is strict when needed to be.
Dakota is 11 years old. He is my first born and the reason I am starting this venture. He is mommy's boy. But he is at that stage where he thinks he knows everything. I fear that I will have trouble making him listen or to make him do his work.
Then there is Michael jr. He is our special child. He is Mike's son from a previous relationship. We have had custody of Mikey since he was 7 years old. He will be 12 in September. Mikey was tortured and sexually abused by his mother and her cohorts for as long as he can remember he says. He has been identified as having ADHD and bipolar disorder. He is on a slew of medications so he can deal with everyday life. He has recently has come to us after spending a year in a residential treatment facility to help him cope with his trauma. It is a long hard wrong with Mikey. Sometime in the upcoming year Mikey will have to have open heart surgery to reapair a hole in his heart he was born with.
Kendra is our first daughter who will be 3 years old on October. She is full of life and mother hen to all. I also will be making an attempt to home educate her along with Dakota this year. I feel that you can never start to early with education.
Samarrah Moon will be 2 in December. She is what I call my quiet storm. She is quiet and observant but when you hurt her feelings or tell her no Watch Out!!!!
Austin is my youngest. He was born on January 16th, 2009. He is a little chub and the light of my life.
So I plan on blogging about my every day to day experience with home school and home life. I hope to meet other newbies and seasoned veterans at home schooling as well. I will share with you helpful links and tips I find along the way. I hope you decide to follow my journey with my family.
